Your Body Was Designed to Heal: Understanding Chronic Inflammation

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” — Psalm 139:14

There was a time in my life when I thought pain was simply something I had to accept.

As a young wife and mother, I suffered from endometriosis so severely that every month I dreaded leaving the house. The pain wasn’t limited to one area of my body—it seemed to affect everything. I lived with headaches, aching joints, fatigue, and found myself reaching for Advil far more often than I care to admit.

I believed that was just my reality.

Maybe you’ve felt the same way.

Perhaps you’ve been told that fatigue is simply part of getting older.

That aching joints are “normal.”

That brain fog, stubborn weight gain, digestive problems, headaches, or low energy are simply things women have to live with.

But what if, instead of simply accepting every symptom, we became curious about what our bodies might be trying to tell us?

Your Body Is Always Working for You

One of the most incredible things I have learned over the years is that our bodies are constantly working to protect, repair, and restore balance.

Inflammation is actually part of that protective response.

When you cut your finger, your body sends inflammatory cells to help begin the healing process.

When you encounter an infection, inflammation is part of the immune response that helps your body fight back.

In the short term, inflammation serves an important purpose.

The problem comes when inflammation becomes chronic.

Instead of being a temporary response that resolves when its job is finished, inflammation can persist—and chronic inflammation is associated with a number of health conditions.

What Is Chronic Inflammation?

Think of inflammation like a campfire.

A campfire provides warmth, comfort, and serves a purpose.

But if that same fire spreads into the surrounding forest, it can begin damaging everything in its path.

Chronic inflammation is a little like that.

It can quietly smolder in the background, sometimes without us realizing it.

Chronic inflammation may be associated with symptoms or conditions involving:

  • Joint and muscle discomfort

  • Fatigue

  • Digestive problems

  • Blood sugar regulation

  • Cardiovascular health

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Some autoimmune conditions

Symptoms such as brain fog, weight changes, skin problems, or hormonal concerns can have many different causes, so they shouldn't automatically be blamed on inflammation. But persistent symptoms are worth paying attention to and discussing with a healthcare professional when appropriate.

The important thing is to listen to your body rather than simply assuming that feeling unwell is an inevitable part of getting older.

What Contributes to Chronic Inflammation?

There isn't usually one single cause.

Many aspects of our health and lifestyle can influence inflammation, including:

  • A diet high in ultra-processed foods

  • Excess added sugar

  • Smoking

  • Excess alcohol

  • Chronic stress

  • Poor or insufficient sleep

  • Lack of regular movement

  • Certain environmental exposures

  • Existing health conditions

And while emotional stress isn't the same thing as physical inflammation, prolonged stress can affect our nervous, hormonal, and immune systems in ways that influence our overall health.

The encouraging news?

Our everyday choices matter.

Small Changes That Help Support Your Body

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that better health doesn’t usually happen overnight.

It happens through consistent daily choices.

Here are a few simple places to begin:

🥗 Choose whole, colourful foods more often and make ultra-processed foods the exception rather than the foundation of your diet.

💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day.

🚶 Move your body every day. Even a simple walk counts.

😴 Prioritize quality sleep and give your body time to restore itself.

🌿 Spend time outside. Fresh air, sunshine, nature, and time in God’s creation can be wonderful for our overall well-being.

🧘 Slow down and breathe. Give your nervous system opportunities to move out of constant stress mode.

🙏 Make room for prayer, gratitude, and reflection.

These aren't quick fixes or guarantees against illness.

They are simple habits that support the remarkable systems God has placed within our bodies.

You Matter

One of the saddest things I hear from women is:

“Everyone else comes first.”

Their children.

Their husbands.

Their grandchildren.

Their jobs.

Their aging parents.

Somewhere along the way, they stop believing they deserve care too.

Can I gently remind you of something?

The body God gave you is not something to criticize.

It isn't something to ignore until you can no longer ignore it.

It is a precious gift.

Caring for your health isn't selfish.

It's stewardship.

When we nourish and care for ourselves, we have more energy to love, serve, encourage, and enjoy the people God has placed in our lives.

My Hope for You

That hope is one of the reasons I created Journey to Vitality.

Not because I believe there is one perfect diet, one magic supplement, or one solution that works for everyone.

I created it because I've seen the difference simple, consistent habits can make in our lives.

One healthy choice leads to another.

One habit begins to shape a lifestyle.

And the choices we make today can help build the future we hope to enjoy tomorrow.

My prayer is that every woman who visits Vitality4Life leaves knowing this:

You matter.

You are deeply loved.

You are wonderfully made.

And it's never too early—or too late—to begin caring for the incredible body God has entrusted to you.

Ready to Begin Your Journey?
