Future Self Friday with Andrea:

Enjoying a beautiful fall day

What If Your Future Looks Different Than You Imagined?

Last week, I took you through a little visualization exercise. I asked you to close your eyes and imagine yourself 5 or 10 years from now. Where are you? What are you doing? And most importantly, how do you feel?

I've been thinking about that question myself.

If you had asked me just one year ago where I saw myself in five years, my answer would have been very different from today.

A year ago, I would have pictured myself continuing in a career I've been in for over 20 years. A career that once brought me joy and fulfillment, but no longer does. I probably would have imagined myself still doing it 10 years from now, simply because it's what I've always done.

But something has changed.

I've come to realize that life is too short to spend the years ahead doing something I'm no longer passionate about.

Today, when I picture myself five years from now, I see something entirely different.

I see myself writing, painting, practising reflexology, spending time with people I love, and pursuing the things that truly bring me joy.

And that vision excites me!

Now, don't get me wrong. Walking away from a career you've spent more than 20 years building isn't easy. Especially financially! There are practical realities to consider, and I certainly haven't figured everything out.

But emotionally? There's something incredibly freeing about giving yourself permission to imagine a different life.

And perhaps that's where change begins.

Sometimes the things holding us back aren't things we dislike. They're things we've simply become accustomed to.

The familiar routine. The expectations. The obligations. The feeling that we've invested too much time to make a change now.

But who says we have to keep doing something simply because we've always done it?

Of course, not everyone wants to change careers. Your vision might be about relationships, finding peace, pursuing a forgotten dream, or simply having more time for the things that matter.

So this Future Self Friday, I want to ask you something.

When you picture your life five years from now, are you imagining the life you truly want—or simply a continuation of the life you're living today?

It's worth thinking about.

Because the choices we make today help shape the person we become tomorrow.

And I don't believe we're ever too old to imagine something new. ❤️
