Life Lately: 25 Years, Grandkids & Our Old School Adventure

The Old School we Bought

The Old School We Bought

(This is a re-post from 2025 - so much has happened since then! Stay Tuned!)

Wow—can you believe how quickly summer is flying by?

So much has been happening around here lately, and I'm sure many of you can relate. Sometimes life seems to move at lightning speed!

This month, Jake and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. 💕

Most people might mark a milestone like that with a romantic getaway or a fancy dinner.

Ours looked a little different.

And very us. 😂

We had two of our grandsons for a sleepover that night and spent the next day chasing giggles and riding rides at Tinker Town Amusement Park.

Not exactly your typical romantic anniversary celebration, but honestly?

It was perfect in its own way.

And Then There Was the Break-In...

Because apparently an anniversary, grandchildren, and an amusement park weren't quite enough excitement, we also had a break-in at the old school we've been renovating into our dream home.

Like I said...

Not your average anniversary weekend! 😂

Thankfully, life carried on, and so did the renovations.

Our Old School Adventure

The rest of the summer has been filled with decisions.

Tile.

Flooring.

Doors.

Paint colours.

Countertops.

And then probably another paint colour because apparently one can never make enough decisions while renovating a home. 😂

If you've ever built or renovated, you know how exciting—and completely overwhelming—it can be.

We're doing much of the work ourselves, which has made this adventure even bigger.

We purchased the old school in December 2023, sold our home in Winnipeg, and moved into a smaller attached home while the renovations began.

Most of our belongings went into storage, and we brought along just the essentials.

Our thinking was:

Six months to a year. We'll be done!

Well...

Nearly two years later... 😂

We're hopefully approaching the finish line.

Sometimes the Detours Become the Story

These past couple of years have certainly been an adventure.

There have been challenges.

Unexpected expenses.

Endless decisions.

Dust.

A LOT of work.

And apparently even the occasional break-in.

But there have also been so many blessings along the way.

Jake has spent countless hours tearing things down and building them back up—with love, determination, and a whole lot of sweat.

And slowly, this funny old school is becoming our home.

I think that's one of the beautiful things about life.

We make plans.

We create timelines.

We think we know exactly how things are going to unfold.

And then life says...

Not quite. 😂

Sometimes the unexpected journey becomes part of the story.

I'll share more about our old-school adventure—and what it has taken to transform it into our home—in another post.

For now, thanks for following along with this crazy, wonderful chapter of our lives.

We can't wait to show you the final reveal! 💕
